PTE Academic is a computer-based English proficiency test accepted worldwide for university admission, professional registration, and student visas. It measures Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening using AI scoring, which means fast, accurate and unbiased results. The test takes only two hours, and results are usually released within 1–3 days.

You book online through the official Pearson website. Create an account at http://www.pearsonpte.com, select PTE Academic, choose a test center, pick a date, and pay by debit or credit card. On exam day, bring your valid passport or you will not be allowed to sit the test. Philippine test centers are available in Manila, Cebu and other key locations, depending on availability.

PTE Academic is a two-hour computer-based exam divided into three sections: Speaking & Writing, Reading, and Listening. The test assesses your ability to communicate in real-life academic settings, and all responses are typed or spoken into a microphone. PTE Academic uses AI and automated scoring system, so every student is assessed against the same standard. Results include an overall score from 10–90 and individual scores for Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening. Importantly, the exam uses integrated scoring, meaning performance in one task may contribute to multiple skills. For example, Repeat Sentence affects both Speaking and Listening, and Write From Dictation impacts Listening, Writing and Spelling. This scoring model rewards consistent performance across high-value tasks.

The fee generally ranges from PHP 14,000 to PHP 15,000, depending on exchange rates and the booking date. Extra fees may apply if you reschedule close to your test day or book late. You pay online directly through the Pearson booking portal.

PTE Academic is designed for academic and professional pathways and is widely recognised by universities, colleges, and immigration authorities in Australia, the UK, New Zealand and other English-speaking destinations. PTE Core is a newer test developed specifically for Canada’s immigration system, covering everyday language used at work and in daily life. While both tests take around two hours and share similar technology and scoring methods, only PTE Core is accepted for Canada PR applications. Students should choose the test based on their study or migration destination.

To register as a nurse with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency), you need a minimum score of 65 in each of the four skills — Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking — in a single PTE Academic sitting. AHPRA also allows you to combine scores from two sittings taken within 6 months, as long as no individual score falls below 58. PTE Academic Online is also accepted by AHPRA, offering flexibility for candidates based outside major cities.

For Proficient English — the minimum requirement for most skilled migration visas including the Skilled Independent Visa (189), Skilled Nominated Visa (190), and Skilled Work Regional Visa (491) — you need an overall PTE Academic score of 65.
